Among those who first conceived of glamour bombing, many were practicing pagans, or had a strong interest in the old pre-Christian religions. Consequently it may be considered a significant inspiration. Unlike many modern western religions, the traditional pagan worldview accounts for and welcomes a great variety of nature spirits and elemental beings. At its heart, paganism is animistic, and the pagan is bound by empathy to locality, seasons, cycles, and the spirits associated with them. In this outlook, nature spirits (fairies, elementals, etc) are just as much a presence in the environment as we are, and to neglect these beings is to invite imbalance or disaster. Perhaps if people believed in the spirits of nature, they might think twice about cutting down an ancient tree. They might let their bulldozers go to rust. They might stop thinking of nature as the enemy, a thing to conquer. The pagan worldview tells us that honoring local spirits benefits us and our surroundings. This is why in our small way, we work to weave magic and wonder back into everyday life. Glamour bombing seeks nothing less than to restore faeries and other spirits of place back into our neighborhoods, homes, and to restore the reciprocity and symbiosis we once had with faeries in the times before their groves and grottoes and wells were torn down. Of course, one is not required to be a pagan to practice the art of glamour bombing. It is not in itself a religious practice or doctrine. GBing appeals to people of many different spiritual persuasions, and all are welcome to participate. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
